Study shows early humans used geometric progression

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have discovered some of the earliest examples of mathematical calculation.

Axar.az reports, citing CNN, that the findings are based on studies of pottery from the Chalaf culture, which existed in Northern Mesopotamia between 6200 and 5500 BCE.

The researchers found cups on the pottery with 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 leaves.

“These numbers indicate the use of a geometric series,” the scientists said.
