Araghchi: Iran has right to peaceful nuclear enrichment

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that diplomacy remains the only viable solution for resolving tensions with the United States over Iran’s nuclear program.

Axar.az reports that during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”, Araghchi confirmed that Iran is preparing a draft proposal for discussion with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff in Geneva, focusing solely on nuclear issues at this stage.

Araghchi stressed Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear enrichment under the NPT, while reiterating that its nuclear program is peaceful and safeguarded by the IAEA.

Responding to U.S. pressure and recent regional military buildups, Araghchi warned that Iran would defend itself if attacked, though he did not provide specifics, and highlighted Iran’s missile capabilities as a deterrent.

He also contrasted the current negotiations with the 2015 JCPOA deal, saying Iran’s nuclear program is now more advanced, and a new agreement could offer better terms.

While acknowledging U.S. skepticism, sanctions, and military threats, he emphasized Iran’s preference for a win-win diplomatic solution over conflict.
