Shoigu warns Finland and Baltics over Ukraine drone claims

Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, has warned Finland and the Baltic states about Russia’s right to self-defense in connection with alleged Ukrainian UAV attacks.

Axar.az reports, citing TASS, that Shoigu made the remarks in a media comment stating that “Recently, there have been more frequent cases in which Ukrainian drones carry out strikes against Russia via Finland and the Baltic states. As a result, civilians suffer and significant damage is caused to civilian infrastructure."

He noted that this could be explained in two ways: either Western air defense systems are highly ineffective, as has already been seen in developments in the Middle East, or the mentioned states are deliberately providing their airspace, effectively acting as open accomplices to aggression against Russia.

In the latter case, under international law, Article 51 of the UN Charter on the inherent right of states to self-defense in the event of an armed attack applies, he stressed.
