Kyrgyzstan showcases infrastructure priorities at St. Petersburg forum

Kyrgyzstan is making its first full-scale participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), currently taking place in the Russian city. Its envoys are using the platform to showcase the country's instructure projects, while also highlighting the level of bilateral ties with the host country.

The Central Asian country is represented at the three-day conference by the First Deputy Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers, Daniyar Amangeldiyev, as Caliber.Az reports citing Kyrgyz media.

He addressed the Kyrgyzstan–Russia Business Dialogue held on the sidelines of the main event, describing SPIEF as one of the world’s leading platforms for fostering economic ties in the region.

Amangeldiyev emphasized how Kyrgyzstan and Russia remain strategic partners and allies, with their bilateral cooperation extending well beyond traditional trade to include industrial cooperation, joint ventures and large-scale investment projects.

The deputy prime minister also highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s steady economic growth and outlined the government’s priorities in developing the real sector of the economy, energy, digital technologies and transport infrastructure.

During his speech, he paid special attention to the strategic China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project, which, according to Amangeldiyev, will significantly enhance the region’s transport capacity, reduce cargo delivery times, while also creating favourable conditions for the development of new industrial and logistics hubs.

The SPIEF event has been held annually since 1997 and marks one of the largest and most significant platforms for the public and private sectors in the region. Estimates forecast that some 20,000 guests from 130 countries are set to attend the three-day event, which has been addressed by multiple heads of state throughout its history, including former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The Russian president traditionally also attends the event, often participating in a panel discussion.
