Azerbaijan joins D-8 climate talks to shape COP31 agenda

Azerbaijan participated in the inaugural meeting of environment ministers from the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, held in Istanbul on July 16–17, as member states stepped up coordination ahead of the COP31 UN climate conference.

The meeting was convened to strengthen cooperation among D-8 countries, align priorities for international climate negotiations, and develop a common approach to global climate action in preparation for COP31, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Azerbaijan was represented by Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva, who presented the country's initiatives to address climate change, expand international climate cooperation, and contribute to the global climate agenda.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Istanbul D-8 Ministerial Declaration on Climate Action and Preparation for COP31.

The declaration outlines the participating countries' shared commitment to deepening cooperation ahead of COP31, enhancing coordination on climate negotiations, and strengthening joint efforts to tackle global climate challenges.
