Iraqi Airways has resumed direct flights between Baghdad and Moscow after a suspension of several months, Russia's Ministry of Transport announced on August 4.
According to the ministry, the first flight since the service resumed arrived at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Iraqi Airways has resumed direct flights to Russia. The first flight arrived at Vnukovo Airport today. The Iraqi airline is resuming flights to Moscow from Baghdad after a break of several months,” the ministry said in a statement.
The airline will operate the route twice a week, with flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
According to the carrier, the decision to restore the service was driven by growing demand for direct air connections between the Iraqi and Russian capitals.
The Russian Ministry of Transport said that, following the resumption of Iraqi Airways' service, direct flights from Russia are now available to 36 countries.
