The death toll from a devastating earthquake in Venezuela has exceeded 6,500, TASS reported citing the Telegram channel of National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez.
The latest figures put the death toll at 6,509, while 226,696 people have received medical assistance. Search operations have rescued 6,462 people.
More than 25,000 homes sustained significant damage.
The earthquake struck Venezuela on the evening of June 24. Two tremors of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 were recorded about 40 seconds apart. Their epicenters were 10 kilometers from each other in Yaracuy state. More than 1,500 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquake.
