Vucic announces resignation as Serbia’s president

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said he will resign as president on September 27.

Axar.az reports that Vucic stated in an interview with Pink TV that “I will submit my resignation from the position of president on the 27th. I will address the people. I have been the longest-serving president of our country, and I could not have done that without our citizens."

“I faithfully served the citizens of Serbia — faithfully, diligently, devotedly and with determination — and then I will leave as an ordinary citizen,” he added.

It should be noted that on September 9, Vucic approved decisions to dissolve the National Assembly, Serbia’s unicameral parliament, and hold snap elections on October 25. He later said he would resign at the end of September and prepare for the snap parliamentary elections as an ordinary citizen.
