On September 25, an event was held to mark the sixth anniversary of September 27 – Remembrance Day of Azerbaijan at the country's Embassy in Sweden.
Representatives of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations in Sweden and members of the community participated in the event.
The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the country.
In his remarks, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Sweden Elnur Sultanov spoke about the significance of September 27 – Remembrance Day.
The Ambassador stated that the victory won by the Azerbaijan Army in the 44-day Patriotic War, under the leadership of President of Azerbaijan and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, holds a significant place in the country's history.
Elnur Sultanov noted that, in accordance with the relevant Order of the head of state, the observance of September 27 as Remembrance Day serves as an expression of deep respect for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
The diplomat spoke about the decisive moments of the 44-day Patriotic War, including the "Iron Fist" operation, the unity of the people, the state, and the army, as well as efforts to preserve the memory of the Victory and honor the sacrifice of the martyrs. He also touched upon the new political realities that have emerged in the region following the full restoration of Azerbaijan's state sovereignty.
He also highlighted the activities of Azerbaijanis living in Sweden and diaspora organizations during the Patriotic War, emphasizing the significance of the diaspora's role in conveying the truth about Azerbaijan to the international community.
Ayda Amir Hashimi, Coordinator for Stockholm of the Coordination Council of Scandinavian Azerbaijanis, also delivered a speech about the activities of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Sweden during the Patriotic War and underlined that the memory of the martyrs lives on forever in the hearts of Azerbaijanis living in Sweden.
The Coordinator said that Azerbaijani compatriots have consistently supported the country’s just cause and that efforts in this regard will continue.
The event featured the screening of a video dedicated to September 27, the Day of Remembrance. The program concluded with a memorial meal in honor of the martyrs.
