Malaysian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Mohamad Alamin has concluded a successful working visit to Azerbaijan from April 15–16, in conjunction with the second Malaysia–Azerbaijan bilateral political consultations in Baku.
An article by US-based Business Today notes that Datuk Mohamad co-chaired the consultations with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, Caliber.Az reports.
The discussions centred on strengthening cooperation across key sectors, including trade and investment, energy, education, green technology, and cultural exchange. Both parties agreed to develop a comprehensive roadmap to guide future collaborative initiatives.
In addition to the consultations, Datuk Mohamad paid a courtesy call on Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, during which he delivered a formal letter of invitation from Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Hasan for an official visit to Malaysia.
Further high-level engagement included a meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to Azerbaijani president, Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration. Their dialogue focused on enhancing collaboration in strategic areas, particularly regional connectivity and multilateral cooperation, reflecting both nations’ shared interest in bolstering their presence on the international stage.
Underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to educational diplomacy, the Deputy Minister also visited ADA University, a prominent institution in Baku known for fostering international academic partnerships. His visit highlighted opportunities for greater academic exchange and institutional collaboration.
Concluding his itinerary, Datuk Mohamad hosted a dinner with members of the Malaysian community residing in Azerbaijan. The informal engagement provided a platform to connect with the diaspora and share updates on national and bilateral developments.
The visit is expected to further enhance Malaysia–Azerbaijan relations, reinforcing diplomatic dialogue and people-to-people ties. It marks a continued commitment by both countries to deepen engagement in areas of mutual interest and to build a robust framework for long-term cooperation.
