Hungary won’t take sides in Ukraine war, Orban

The Hungarian government does not intend to take sides in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and will be guided solely by its national interests in resolving issues.

Axar.az reports that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said this while speaking at a meeting with activists of the Fidesz–Hungarian Civic Alliance party.

During his speech, one of the participants asked which side Hungary supports in the Ukraine conflict, noting that Hungary is a NATO member and that other alliance members are actively backing Ukraine.

“What you are talking about is like a board game played in Brussels. Why should we choose whose side Hungary is on? Why should I be on someone else’s side if I am on Hungary’s side?” Orban replied.

The prime minister added that his government will determine its position on international issues based on national interests, which allow cooperation with various countries in both the West and the East.
