Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned remarks made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during her recent press briefing.
Axar.az reports that spokesperson Ayhan Hajiyev stated that Zakharova’s attempt to mention Azerbaijan’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev in a context unrelated to a question about Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s comments on religious figures was unacceptable.
Hajiyev emphasized that the comments were inappropriate and constitute disrespect toward Heydar Aliyev’s legacy and the Azerbaijani people.
"Statements of this nature fall short of the standards expected from an official representative. Diplomacy requires discipline, precision, and responsibility, not unnecessary remarks that heighten tensions or undermine credibility. We expect Russia to provide an explanation regarding this statement," he said.
