Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, held a phone conversation today with Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of Portugal.
Axar.az informs that during the call the ministers discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal, as well as regional and international security issues.
The Portuguese minister informed that a decision had been made to upgrade his country’s diplomatic representation in Azerbaijan and to open an embassy in the country. Minister Bayramov expressed his gratitude for this decision.
The ministers emphasized the importance of the political consultations mechanism and mutual visits in advancing bilateral relations. Opportunities for expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, trade, transport, and tourism were reviewed.
The sides also touched upon cooperation within international organizations and stressed the importance of continuing mutual support.
The ministers expressed concern over the growing military escalation in the Middle East and underscored the need for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
They also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
