Azerbaijani defence chief highlights military reforms, post-war strength In Independence Day message

Azerbaijanoi Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov has underscored major reforms in the country's armed forces, improved service conditions for military personnel, and enhanced defence capabilities in a message marking Independence Day on May 28.

Hasanov said the reforms, along with large-scale restructuring in the military, had strengthened the country’s combat readiness and personnel determination, Caliber.Az reports per the ministry.

“The great achievements in increasing our republic's defence capabilities, along with the large-scale reforms in the military, the strengthening of social infrastructure, the improvement of service conditions for military personnel, and the training conducted, have further strengthened the personnel's determination to win,” Hasanov said.

He linked the reforms to Azerbaijan’s wartime experience, saying the 44-day war had marked a turning point for the armed forces.

“The Victory in the 44-day Motherland War has opened new pages of heroism in the history of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan,” he said, adding that subsequent operations led to the liberation of the occupied lands.

Hasanov said Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty had been fully restored under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, describing the armed forces as a key pillar of national stability and reconstruction efforts in liberated territories.

He also highlighted ongoing modernisation efforts and national development initiatives, including reconstruction projects under the “Great Return” programme.

The minister paid tribute to fallen soldiers and veterans, and extended Independence Day congratulations to military personnel, wishing them health, success, and continued service to the state.
