The US military and political leadership does not want a resumption of full-scale hostilities against Iran, according to Al Monitor, citing sources within the American administration.
The outlet reported that Washington sees no prospects of achieving its objectives through renewed military operations.
The White House is instead seeking a diplomatic settlement of the conflict while increasing economic pressure on Tehran.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that negotiations between Washington and Tehran were progressing well and that an agreement could be reached as early as the coming weekend.
