The heads of the Azerbaijani and Iranian customs authorities met at the Azerbaijan-Iran border on July 30 to discuss measures aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and improving cross-border transit procedures.
According to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, Chairman Shahin Baghirov, Colonel General of the Customs Service, held talks with Iran’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and Head of the Customs Administration, Foroud Asgari.
The discussions focused on practical cooperation between the two customs administrations, including the synchronised clearance of vehicles at border crossing points, the introduction of electronic information exchange, and measures to enhance operational efficiency.
The two sides also reviewed transit procedures, with particular attention to accelerating the movement of freight vehicles travelling from Azerbaijan through Iranian territory to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and in the opposite direction.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol formalising the agreements reached during the talks.
