Azerbaijan, Iran explore accelerating transit cargo transportation

Shahin Baghirov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, met with a delegation of Iran, led by Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Head of the Customs Administration, in Bilasuvar, on July 30.

The meeting focused on expanding practical customs cooperation between the two countries, ensuring the synchronized movement of vehicles through border checkpoints, establishing electronic data exchange, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting coordinated development of future cooperation.

The sides also discussed streamlining transit procedures, including increasing traffic capacity to facilitate faster border crossings for freight vehicles traveling between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iranian territory, and outlined measures to achieve these objectives.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed a protocol on cooperation.

The Azerbaijani and Iranian delegations subsequently toured the customs and border checkpoint facilities operating in Bilasuvar.
