Syria’s Interior Ministry said Tuesday that its Internal Security Forces and General Intelligence Service, working with international partners, had arrested a senior ISIS military leader in the Manbij countryside of Aleppo.

Axar.az reports, citing SANA News Agency, that the ministry identified the suspect as Hamza Abdullah Mohammed, also known as “Abu Jihad al-Muhajir,” and described him as a prominent military commander of the terrorist group.

According to the ministry, Mohammed served as military commander of ISIS’s so-called “Sham Province” and previously as deputy general military commander under the alias “Al-Harithi.” He also headed the group’s so-called “Idlib Province” under the same alias.

The ministry said the operation was part of efforts to pursue ISIS leaders and cells, dismantle its networks and prevent attempts to reorganize and threaten public security and Syria’s stability.
