Germany investigates arms cache found near Berlin

German authorities are investigating a weapons cache discovered in a forest near Berlin last year amid suspicions that the weapons were intended for targeted killings on behalf of Russian intelligence.

Axar.az reports, citing DW, that the cache contained two handguns and ammunition.

German security authorities disabled the weapons but left them at the site and placed the location under surveillance for several months. No one was seen approaching the cache.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed that a suspect detained in Romania was being investigated on suspicion of espionage and planning a violent attack endangering the state.

Dobrindt did not confirm reports linking the weapons to Russian intelligence, saying only that the involvement of foreign powers could not be ruled out.

According to German media reports, the suspect was detained in Romania last year in connection with planned parcel bomb attacks.

Moscow has denied allegations of involvement in similar incidents, describing them as fabricated provocations and part of what it called anti-Russian hysteria in Germany.
