Azerbaijan issues statement after cargo ship hit by drone

A cargo ship named CHELSEA-3 came under a drone attack in the Black Sea, 18 nautical miles east of the Bulgarian city of Byala, at around 1:30 a.m. today.

Axar.az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service, all eight Azerbaijani citizens among the vessel’s 15 crew members were rescued. One of them, Ramin Rauf oglu Gambarli, born in 1993, was taken to a military hospital in Varna, where his condition is being monitored.

The other seven Azerbaijani citizens underwent initial medical examinations and are in satisfactory condition.

The Foreign Ministry is coordinating with Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions and the relevant authorities of the countries concerned. Measures are being taken to provide the citizens with necessary medical and consular assistance and arrange their safe return to Azerbaijan.

The ministry once again urged Azerbaijani citizens to avoid travelling to areas affected by military operations or with unstable security situations. It also advised against working in such areas or aboard vessels operating along high-risk routes, particularly in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
