US First Lady Melania Trump has secured an agreement between Russia and Ukraine for a localized ceasefire in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky, allowing humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations.
Axar.az reports, citing a statement from the White House, that the ceasefire will take effect on October 29 and temporarily suspend all military activity in the city.
The agreement provides for civilian representatives from both countries to assess residents’ needs and coordinate assistance, including medical supplies, food, and clean water. Residents wishing to leave will receive transportation to their preferred destinations in Russia or Ukraine.
The statement said Melania Trump and her representative worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership to establish the terms of the agreement, including procedures for demining and evacuation.
Oleshky, located in Ukraine’s Kherson region across the Dnipro River from the city of Kherson, had a pre-war population of about 24,000. The White House estimates that between 1,700 and 2,000 people remain in the city, including approximately 50 children.
