Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has called for a comprehensive investigation into the explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port in the south of the country and for those guilty of negligence to be punished.
"The tragic incident with the fire at the Shahid Rajaee port is deeply alarming and saddening. The security and judicial authorities are obliged to conduct a thorough investigation, identify all cases of negligence or deliberate actions and take measures in strict accordance with the law,” the supreme leader said, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Khamenei urged all officials to take responsibility for preventing bitter and destructive incidents.
To recall, an explosion occurred on April 26, 2025, at the Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, resulting in 40 fatalities and over 1,200 injuries, local health authorities say.
The explosion produced a large fire and a plume of black smoke visible for kilometres, causing significant structural damage and affecting port operations.
