Muneo Suzuki, a Japanese parliamentarian, has urged Ukraine to recognize its current position and pursue negotiations with Russia to avoid repeating the fate of Japan at the end of World War II.
In a recent blog post, Suzuki emphasized the need for Ukraine to abandon aggressive rhetoric and approach the conflict with calm and consistent diplomacy, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“I do not want Ukraine to repeat the fate of Japan,” Suzuki wrote. “It should understand its position, refrain from inappropriate statements, and calmly and consistently pursue negotiations.” The comments came amid growing international concern over the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Suzuki also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, suggesting that his strong public statements did not align with the realities of Ukraine's military situation. He noted that despite Zelenskyy’s vocal stance, “Ukraine is unable to win by its own efforts.”
The Japanese MP drew parallels between the current conflict and Japan’s experience in the final stages of World War II. He recalled how, in 1945, Japanese military leaders encouraged citizens to "fight to the last soldier," a sentiment that led to tragic consequences.
"80 years ago, a group of Japanese military men incited the people by calling to ‘fight to the last soldier’ and ‘throw women and children armed with bamboo spears’ to attack the US, which eventually led to deplorable results," Suzuki wrote.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, stated that the Russian leader was willing to resume negotiations with Ukraine unconditionally.
