The U20 European Wrestling Championships are continuing in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.
Axar.az reports that on the fifth day of competition, the winners were determined in the 57 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 79 kg, and 97 kg freestyle wrestling weight categories.
Competing at 57 kg, Muhammad Ismayilov defeated Great Britain's Darius Jovkar (10-0) and then Moldova's Georgi Gaidarji (11-0) by technical superiority to advance to the semifinals. He lost 2-4 to Russia's Magomed Ozdemirov in the semifinals and will compete for the bronze medal tomorrow.
At 65 kg, Bashir Verdiyev defeated Greece's Pavlos Ntiantiadis 10-0 and advanced to the semifinals after beating Russia's Said Gergokov on criteria following a 2-2 draw. However, he lost 5-6 to Armenia's Aren Hayrapetyan in the semifinals and will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.
In the 70 kg category, Haji Karimov secured identical 10-0 victories over Bulgaria's Vladislav Seizov and Slovakia's Dominik Zavacki to reach the semifinals. He then defeated Russia's Ramazan Abdulkadirov 7-0 to advance to the final, where he will face France's Bayssangur Bitmurzayev for the gold medal.
Competing at 79 kg, Eljan Ismayilzade lost 0-4 to Russia's Magomed Alibakharchiyev in the qualification round. After his opponent reached the final, Ismayilzade earned a place in the repechage and will face Spain's David Kodakov.
At 97 kg, Farhad Suleymanli first defeated Romania's Balas Lorinc 12-5 and then Germany's Tom Ulamet 11-0 by technical superiority to reach the semifinals. He lost 2-4 to France's Askhab Dadayev one step away from the final and will compete for the bronze medal tomorrow.
