The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has expressed disappointment over FIFA's announcement of the proposed establishment of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), saying it was not consulted before the initiative was made public.
In a statement, the AFC said a proposal of such significance should have been discussed through established governance channels before being announced, Caliber.Az reports.
While acknowledging the importance of exploring new approaches to support the future of global football, the AFC said initiatives with major commercial and financial implications must be based on "good governance, transparency and meaningful consultation."
The confederation said decisions that could reshape the sport's commercial and financial future should involve comprehensive engagement with continental confederations, member associations and other stakeholders before being presented to FIFA's decision-making bodies.
The AFC also said stakeholders should be given sufficient information and adequate time to assess the proposal, including its governance, legal, commercial and strategic implications.
According to the AFC, such a process is necessary to ensure that any decision reflects the collective interests of the global football community and strengthens confidence in FIFA's governance framework.
The AFC added that, as one of FIFA's six continental confederations, it remains committed to the continued growth of world football.
