UEFA, AFC weigh no-confidence vote against Infantino

UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONCACAF are discussing a possible no-confidence vote to remove FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that the move follows opposition to Infantino’s proposal to sell private investors a minority stake in a FIFA commercial entity that would control World Cup commercial rights.

Infantino intends to seek re-election in March 2027 and retains significant support among FIFA members, including in Africa. Opponents fear that a failed no-confidence vote could strengthen his position ahead of the election.

Under FIFA statutes, an Extraordinary Congress can be called if at least one-fifth of FIFA’s 211 member associations submit a written request.
