Tenerife initially reported that he was “stable, despite the severity of his condition” in the intensive care unit of Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Senora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz, before reporting that his neurological condition had worsened in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Spanish second division club released a statement saying he had passed away at 8am on Tuesday. It said: “Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda.
It should be noted that de Miguel lost consciousness after a violent collision with opposing goalkeeper Ovono in stoppage time.
