Azerbaijan is among the world’s leading producers and exporters of hazelnuts. Hazelnut exports generate substantial annual revenues for the country, making the product one of Azerbaijan’s major export commodities, according to a report by China’s Xinhua News Agency.
The report highlighted that Azerbaijan’s “Aqrarco” company has successfully completed its registration in the China Import Food Enterprise Registration (CIFER) system, becoming the first Azerbaijani company authorized to export hazelnuts to China.
Akbar Aliyev, Head of the Import and Export Control Department of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, said in a recent interview with Xinhua that the company’s obtaining authorization to export shelled hazelnuts to China represents an important step toward expanding access for Azerbaijani hazelnuts to the Chinese market and will contribute to enhancing the export potential of local producers.
According to the report, following the signing of a protocol between Baku and Beijing in September 2025 on the export of Azerbaijani hazelnuts and almonds to China, the agency, at the request of the Chinese side, inspected the production facilities of Azerbaijani companies seeking to supply hazelnuts to China over several months and submitted the inspection results.
As a result, “Aqrarco” successfully registered in the CIFER system and obtained authorization to export shelled hazelnuts to China.
