African Union, Azerbaijan may hold joint summit to expand cooperation

The African Union and Azerbaijan have discussed the possibility of holding a joint summit aimed at expanding cooperation as part of a meeting between Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Ruslan Nasibov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

The African Union said, in a post on X, that the sides focused on strengthening bilateral relations, including the possibility of convening an Africa–Azerbaijan summit to further deepen cooperation, Caliber.Az reports.

Discussions also covered potential collaboration in civil service and public sector reform, with particular emphasis on exchanging experience, best practices, and strengthening institutional capacity.

The two sides additionally exchanged views on key international developments, including the situation in the Middle East and the Russia–Ukraine conflict, stressing the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful conflict resolution.
