Ukraine is doing well on the battlefield, while Russia is suffering significant losses.
Axar.az reports that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte made the remarks in an interview with Fox News.
“What we are seeing is that Ukraine is doing well on the battlefield. They are, as we speak, killing and seriously wounding about between 30,000 and 35,000 Russians a month. And these are, of course, incredible numbers.”
Rutte also said that Ukraine has been effectively targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure, particularly oil refineries, which he said support the country’s war effort financially.
"The Ukrainians are being effective in hitting their energy infrastructure, particularly the oil refineries inside Russia, which, of course, also support the war effort, because at this moment, Putin is spending almost 50% of his state budget on defense. Three-quarters of his tax income is spent on defense."
Rutte said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, along with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are working to achieve a peace agreement, but that it can only happen if Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to engage in the process.
“The Ukrainians are really doing well. So what we need here is for Putin to play ball, to come to the negotiating table. And again, here it is Donald Trump, as president in February last year, who broke the deadlock with Putin. Vitkoff, Kushner, Marco Rubio, all working on getting this peace deal done. But it can only happen if indeed Putin is willing to come along and to work with the others to get this done. And so far, he has only repeated his maximalist demands.”
