The European Union has allocated €5 million to support victims of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela.
Axar.az reports that EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced the assistance in a post on X.
"I conveyed the EU's full solidarity with the Venezuelan people and our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones. The EU has already mobilised €5 million in emergency assistance for affected communities," Kallas wrote.
"We have activated the European Civil Protection Mechanism, with several Member States rapidly deploying search and rescue teams, firefighters and medical personnel. The EU’s Copernicus satellite system is supporting emergency responders by helping to map the damage and target assistance where it is needed most," she said.
On June 25, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck northern Venezuela, killing 1,430 people. A state of emergency has been declared across the country.
