Merz warns Russia’s war machine could target Europe - Video

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday on a show of solidarity with Ukraine, warning that Russia’s war machine could eventually threaten Germany and Europe.

Axar.az reports, citing AP, that Merz said his second visit to Kyiv as chancellor was intended to demonstrate Germany’s support for Ukraine.

“If Russia is not stopped, its war machine will sooner or later turn against us,” he said.

Merz also told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: “You can continue to count on our help.” Germany has provided Ukraine with more than €43.3 billion in aid since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.

During the visit, Merz and Zelensky paid their respects to fallen Ukrainian soldiers and visited a National Academy of Sciences building damaged in a Russian attack.

“These barbaric attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine must stop. These are daily war crimes,” Merz said at the site, addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin with a call to end the war. “We’re ready to talk.”

Zelensky said Ukraine and Germany would reach “important agreements” aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defenses and European security. Merz and Zelensky also discussed cooperation between German and Ukrainian companies in developing technologies for both countries.
