Baku, October 26, AZERTAC
“Following the 2023 war, the Government of Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev demonstrated strategic foresight and political commitment by, first and foremost, initiating the signing of a peace agreement with Armenia. This was not an easy decision for the Azerbaijani people. Just put yourselves in the shoes of the Azerbaijani people, whose country remained under occupation for 30 years and whose entire cultural and religious heritage was destroyed in the occupied territories over all those years,” Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said during a special session on the theme "The Language of Peace and Combatting Disinformation" held as part of the Baku Culture and Media Dialogue Platform.
Noting that proposing a peace agenda immediately after the war indeed requires great commitment, the Assistant to the President said however, the Government of Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev demonstrated this initiative.
"It was right here, where we took a crucial step towards establishing lasting peace and ending the war. It was the opposing side who resisted and spread disinformation. All fundamental principles of the peace agreement were drafted by Azerbaijan," Hikmet Hajiyev added.
