Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected claims that Tehran violated its previous agreement, saying the United States breached the deal first.
Axar.az reports that Araghchi made the remarks in an interview with the Meet the Press program while discussing diplomacy and the possibility of a new agreement.
“First of all, we did not violate the agreement. They violated it first. But if their narrative is that we violated the agreement, then why did they attack us? They could have activated Article 12 of the memorandum, the provision established for this new dispute-resolution mechanism,” Araghchi said.
He said Iran remained committed to diplomacy but was also prepared for conflict.
“We trust ourselves. We are ready for diplomacy, and we are ready for war. They have tested us in both areas. They have tested us twice through their aggression, and if they want to test us again, we welcome it,” Araghchi said.
He said Iran had proposed a seven-day plan under which specific measures would be taken to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, followed by the resumption of negotiations for a final agreement.
